An Easy & Stress-Free Way to Get Your Toddler Ready for Kindergarten – The Kindergarten Toolkit!

You know how the saying goes…

Life does not come with a manual

It comes with a Mother.

Well what it forgot to mention was that a Mother sometimes might not have all the “chapters” to be sufficient as a manual. Take my poorly executed (or lack thereof) teaching skills. Dare I even say “Super Why” is what taught him his letters? Gasp. I know. Please don’t judge me.

So Gentry has been in daycare now for over a year. Granted, they send home a checklist of what they did for the day but do I reeeeally know? I mean I’m not there to monitor all day. I still feel its my obligation to prepare my son for school… even though I SUCK AT IT.

I mean look at that face.

I love my kid, but it is SO difficult to pin him down and work on any sort of anything with him. Please tell me I’m not the only Mama struggling with this! Well I have been eyeballing this one product. It has been tested out by a few different bloggers in my circle so I decided to test it out as well.

Who would this benefit?

Well besides your little human, this toolkit would be perfect for:

  • SAHMs – I know how hard it is to get a routine going. I think that having everything all put together for me along with instructions makes it STRESS-FREE and easy to get the child involved
  • Working out of the home Moms – Ladies, I know FIRST HAND how you have ZERO time for ANYTHING. This toolkit makes it easy for you to pull from your shelf read a paragraph of what you are supposed to do and initiate it with your child.  PLUS you only need 30 minutes a WEEK to get this done!
  • Grandparents and other family members – Does your family want to be more involved with your child but doesn’t really know how to connect with a three-nager? Or an anxious Auntie that wants to step up and help out? Hand over this Toolkit to them!
  • Nanny + Babysitter – When I babysat, I had a whole goodie box I would bring over. I am still friends with the family I used to babysit for and they still reference this magical box I would bring each time. This Toolkit is the same concept except the kid gets to LEARN. #Hello

What we have been working on

Within the lesson book, Carrie explains that you need to find out where your child is first and foremost. Gentry nails pretty much all of the lessons except for writing. Writing his name, letters, numbers all of it. So before I found out about the Toolkit, I purchased a wooden puzzle board with his name on it. It turned out to be more of a game than an educational activity. So then I started incorporating a song to his name. I would clap between each letter and make up my own jingle. He liked this a LOT and still sings the little tune. But what he still is struggling with is the writing aspect. So once I opened up the toolkit, we jumped right in to trying to write his name.

At first, Gent would not write on the board (as shown in this picture.) He would point to the letters but refused to write and would tell me to just do it. So then I started over and wrote the letters REALLY big.

As I was instructing him to trace the letters, he refused. He wanted to color in the lines and not write the letters… but BABY STEPS is what I kept telling myself…

After he tried to trace color the large letters, I re-wrote his name smaller and he was finally getting the hang of it! Check out the video at the bottom of the post that shows his progress. 🙂

Another lesson I am working with Gentry on is his site words. We have been saying this kid can read for about 6 months now and seeing him read sight words on flashcards about made my eyes pop outta my head!
